Property ownership is fundamental to individual rights and the American Dream. Yet across America, owners and developers increasingly encounter permitting demands, impact fees, zoning restrictions, environmental rules, and regulatory barriers that determine whether—and sometimes whether ever—they can put their property to productive use. Pacific Legal Foundation President Steven Anderson will tell the story of how PLF takes those fights from city hall all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court—and wins. He’ll highlight landmark victories for property rights while explaining PLF’s broader fight to restore constitutional limits on government, rein in the administrative state, and make America a place where people are once again free to build.
About our presenter: Steven D. Anderson is president and CEO of Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF), which he joined in 2016. Founded in 1973, PLF litigates nationwide to defend individual rights and liberty and has a distinguished record before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Before joining PLF, Steven spent 12 years at the Institute for Justice, most recently as executive vice president and CFO. He also directed IJ’s Castle Coalition, helping homeowners, business owners, and elected officials fight eminent domain abuse.
Steven has testified before Congress and state legislatures, advised government leaders on public policy, and spoken nationally on protections for individual liberty. His commentary has appeared in major publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times, and he has appeared regularly on television and radio.
A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Steven earned his law degree from Wake Forest University and his undergraduate degree with distinction from the University of Virginia. He lives in Sacramento with his wife, Lyndsay, and their two sons.
